Hakeoung Hannah Lee is a Ph.D. candidate in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Education Program with a focus on Learning Sciences and Computer Science at the University of Texas at Austin. She holds an M.S. in Statistics and a B.A. in Education.
Hannah's research primarily focuses on developing and deploying AI-enhanced multimodal learning analytics approaches in STEM learning contexts from sociocultural perspectives. Her dissertation is titled AI-Enhanced Multimodal Approach for Understanding Group Dynamics Through Verbal, Nonverbal, and Object-Based Interactions in Collaborative Learning.
She has been awarded the University Graduate Continuing Fellowship, Graduate School Full Package Recruitment Fellowship, the Texas New Scholars Fellowship, the Korean Government Scholarship, Gwanjeong Education Foundation Scholarship, the Long Joe and Teresa endowed fellowship and the Addison E. Lee endowed fellowship. Her research was funded by the Learnest Ethical AI Fellowship, Good Systems Graduate Fellowship, PIs' NSF projects, and the STEM Education and C&I departments. Additionally, she has teaching experience at UT Dell Medical School and UT College of Education, as well as internship experience at the United Nations in New York.
Hannah has published in various peer-reviewed journals and proceedings, including the Journal of Learning Analytics, Educational Researcher, Springer Nature Computer Science, Bilingual Research Journal, the Journal of the Korean Association of Information Education, Proceedings of the International Conference of the Learning Sciences, and Proceedings of the International Conference on Computer Analysis of Images and Patterns.
She has been the recipient of numerous esteemed accolades and honors. This includes the Talent Award of Korea (awarded by the Minister of the Korean Ministry of Education), the Minister of the Korean Ministry of Science and ICT Award, the Minister of the Korean Ministry of Gender Equality and Family Award, and the President of the National Universities of Education President's Council Award.
Currently, Hannah serves as a founding member and director of research for the Society of Technology for Education and Learning Analytics (STELA). She is also a member of the board for the Korean Edutech / Learning Sciences Researchers Network (KELS) and previously served as the vice president of the Korean Student Association at the University of Texas at Austin (UTKSA).
